“Simple but useful objects, which serve us silently, and without which we cannot do without, are the elements which are depicted in my works.
I come from a working class background, and as if the subjects of my works – baskets, switches, buckets etc. are also symbolic of a class of people, without whom society cannot function, but they are invisible to our consciousness, and only seem to have a functional identity.
We don’t look upon an ordinary bucket or an egg basket as an ‘art’ object in real life, but somehow when I depict them in my works, they take a new identity, that goes beyond their functional purpose.
Simple ordinary things also have an aesthetic appeal – this idea is presented through my works.
I don’t use oil or acrylic, but use enamel paint, that also seems to suit my style of dripping and formation of lines. I also use kerosene, oil thinner, water, tissue paper, washing powder – all such items which are not normally associated with art.
My works undergo many transformations, and I have noticed that my style of dripping paint and their flow resemble my moods, and are indicative of my own nature.”
