“I always loved fairy tales and how we draw as a child – a utopian world where there is no darkness. Drawings by children never include elements which symbolizes violence, fear and terror, which our world has to deal with every passing day.

My deliberate attempt is to paint in the style of ‘child art’ and recover the freshness and the sense that I get exiled from by living in our world.

But the dark elements seep into my ‘escape’, and ultimately my works utter a sublime grim reality that always accompanies, or even over shadows my expressions of child-likeness.

When elements of darkness start appearing in ‘child-art’ then it is symbolic of a very grim world from where even the innocent imagination of a child is not insulated from, and that becomes a metaphoric statement, uttered in an unique way about the world we live in, and the fears that we have to deal with every day.

Elements from rural and urban life appear in my works, along with imagination, dreams and an underlying grim reality that we cannot really escape from, since we are carry it in within our own self.”
